Our Sacred Duty And Glorious Privilege

Our Sacred Duty And Glorious Privilege

Don’t you love the great hymn, Onward Christian Soldiers?  It succinctly captures the Biblical reality that we really are soldiers, that there really is a war.  Think of these words from the third verse: “Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there.”  Think!  Where duty calls… I do believe that if more Christians would realize that proclaiming is not only a privilege, but also a sacred duty, there would be much more evangelistic activity in this earth.

“The Christian is sent into the world as God’s herald and Christ’s ambassador, to broadcast this message as widely as he can.  This is both his DUTY (because God commands it, and love to our neighbor requires it) and his privilege (because it is a great thing to speak for God, and to take our neighbor the remedy . . . that can save him from the terrors of spiritual death.)”  (J.I. Packer)

Those patriots who have fought in wartime for our freedoms were moved by duty.  Duty propelled them onward!  May it do the same for us as we give ourselves to put on gospel armor and fight for our King and for the lost all around us!
