So, are all of us, not just apostles and gifted “evangelists,” commanded by Jesus to go and preach the gospel? Let’s look at J.I. Packer’s further thoughts on this.
“We are all under orders to devote ourselves to spreading the good news and to use all our ingenuity and enterprise to bring it to the notice of the whole world. The Christian, therefore, must constantly be searching his conscience, asking himself if he is doing all that he might be doing in this field. For this also is a responsibility that cannot be shrugged off.”
Wow! Could I beg you to chew on those words for a few minutes? Consider some of his specific words—under orders, ingenuity, enterprise, constantly be searching, shrugged off. Today, will you join me in searching your own conscience. Consider this command of Jesus—GO INTO THE HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS AND COMPEL THEM TO COME IN!
