What Must I Do to be Saved?

Do you know the answer?  After you have proclaimed sin, the law, righteousness, judgment, salvation through the gospel; and the lost person wants to know what he needs to do, it is imperative that you know what to say!

It is not theologically complicated.  So simple that a child can understand.   You must tell the inquiring sinner that he must do two things: REPENT and BELIEVE.

#1 REPENT!  Acts 17:30–“He (God) commands all people everywhere to REPENT.”  Luke 13:1-3– “. . . unless you repent, you will perish.”    Definition:  Repentance is much more than being sorry for past sins, though it includes that.  It is a change of mind and heart, doing a 180, turning one’s back on self-centered living and sin AND turning toward Jesus with an all-out determination to pursue Him.

#2 BELIEVE (TRUST)!  1 John 3:23–“This is the commandment , that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ.”  Acts 16:32–“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.”  Definition:  In the western mindset, believe is merely mental assent.  In the Greek language and culture, believe is so much richer.  It means to fully trust in what you are believing, so much so that you totally entrust yourself to it.  It’s basically saying, “Lord I trust you so completely, that from now on, I’m getting in the back seat and you are the driver.  Wherever you go, I go!  And I totally stake my entire future on the fact that you died for me to totally take away my sins and bestow on me your righteousness; and that you rose from the dead to give me eternal life with you in Heaven forever.”
