Overflowing Joy!

I love this little story by John Piper.

“A few days ago I called my eighty-five-year-old father and said, “Daddy, I am writing a book on how to fight for joy. What one thing comes to your mind from sixty years of ministry as to what Christians could do to increase their joy?” Almost without hesitation he said, “Share their faith.” Joy in Christ thrives on being shared. That is the essence of Christian joy: it overflows or dies.

I have seen this again and again in my life, in my family’s life, and in others. I wish you could have been with me last Saturday evening. We had just finished our witnessing adventure, training some new folks from the Eastern Shore. You should have seen the joyful, intense, riveted discussions taking place. It was like a neon sign, flashing this message: JOY IN CHRIST THRIVES ON BEING SHARED!!! And share we did! Over one hundred unbelievers heard the glorious gospel on that Saturday evening. What joy, indeed!

Dear Christian friends, I know life can be ridiculously busy. I know sometimes it seems like it’s all we can do just to stay above water. But, oh how we must get our focus right. We have been given a stewardship–THE GOSPEL. Woe to us if we do not preach the gospel. And, the glory of it is that as we press through the fear, the inadequacy, the barriers, we experience the joy of obeying our Savior in His harvest fields.

For the glory of HIs name, for the sake of the gospel, and for joy unspeakable in our own hearts–LET’S GO! TODAY!
